Today, our Pocomoke community came together in a powerful way! Pocomoke Middle School joined with our friends at Pocomoke Elementary and Pocomoke High School for a special Backpack Giveaway. This event was all about teamwork, partnership, and supporting our students as they prepare for a successful school year. We were especially excited to see our new teachers meeting families, building connections, and becoming part of our Pocomoke family from day one. 💙💛 We are so proud to be part of a community that believes in lifting each other up and putting students first. The new model now requires headphones and earbuds to be USB-C compatible, so be sure to check that compatibility when purchasing from your child's school supply list. This summer in 5th grade ELA, students have been exploring the big question: What is the fuel of the future? Through informational texts, discussions, and opinion writing, we’ve been learning about fossil fuels, their impact on the environment, and the rise of clean, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and hydropower. To make learning come alive, students participated in a Cookie Mining Simulation, where they "mined" chocolate chips from cookies to model the effects of fossil fuel extraction. This fun and hands-on activity helped students see how mining can damage ecosystems—and inspired thoughtful conversations about cleaner alternatives for our planet’s future. We’re combining reading, writing, critical thinking, and real-world issues to build powerful literacy skills that last far beyond the classroom!
